Susan Mason | Author Chat

I've had the pleasure of getting to know Susan just a little at the Christian Fiction Readers Retreat as well as seeing her at the annual American Christian Fiction Writers's conference. So happy to have her on the blog today!

Susan Anne Mason describes her writing style as “romance sprinkled with faith.” She loves incorporating inspirational messages of God’s unconditional love and forgiveness into her characters’ journeys. Irish Meadows, her first historical romance, won the Fiction from the Heartland contest sponsored by the Mid-American Romance Authors chapter of RWA.
Susan lives outside Toronto, Ontario, with her husband, two children, and one rather plump cat. She loves red wine and chocolate, and is not partial to snow even though she’s Canadian. Learn more about Susan and her books at www.susanannemason.net.

Let's get real...

What’s one thing you would like to impart to your readers about your books and being an author?
As much as I love creating characters and stories, it is a HUGE amount of work to get a book actually published. The juggling of many tasks at once is the hardest part for me. For instance, right now I’m trying to write Book 2 in the Canadian Crossing series, I just finished the final galleys for Book 1 “The Best of Intentions” which comes out this summer, and I have an upcoming blog tour to promote A Most Noble Heir which releases in a few weeks. On top of that, I have a busy day job and am dealing with a difficult situation concerning my elderly mother. It can be quite stressful at times. Probably more than I ever imagined it would be. So getting ‘love’ from readers goes a long way to making it all worthwhile!

If your book became a movie, who would you cast for your main characters?
I would pick the dashing Henry Cavill for Nolan and Sophia Myles for Hannah. Now you’ll all have to Google them! 😀

Least favorite food?
Liver. (shudder)

What’s one thing you must have/do in the morning?
I must have my half-a-bagel with peanut butter and at least one cup of fresh brewed coffee. 😁

What does a ‘normal’ day look like for you?
I get up around 7 am and get ready for work. I work part-time as a church secretary/administrator. Most days I run errands on the way home, then I have lunch, read my emails, and hopefully get some writing or writing-related work done until I have to cook dinner.

Name three places you’d like to travel to & why.
I hope to one day travel to England, Ireland and Scotland—because after researching my family tree, I discovered I have a lot of ancestors from these places, and it would be fun to see where they lived.

Coffee or tea?
Both! I love coffee in the morning, but once noon hour hits, I drink tea only. My favorite tea is an herbal red tea called Rooibos!

Creamy or smooth peanut butter?
Um, aren’t creamy and smooth the same thing? LOL. Definitely smooth and not chunky!

Emilie here: Oops! Need to change this question - I mean't crunchy or smooth hehe!

Favorite dessert?
Anything chocolate!

Cats or dogs or both?
I’m definitely a cat person! We lost one of our cats, a tabby named Riley, about a year and a half ago, but we still have one large white princess cat! She just needs a tiara!

A Most Noble Heir
by Susan Anne Mason

A young man suddenly thrust into nobility is torn between the servant girl he hopes to marry and the father he’s always longed for. Will he choose the trappings of his new life or the woman he loves?

When stable hand Nolan Price learns from his dying mother that he is actually the son of the Earl of Stainsby, his plans for a future with kitchen maid, Hannah, are shattered. Once he is officially acknowledged as the earl’s heir, Nolan will be forbidden to marry beneath him. Unwilling to give up the girl he loves, he devises a plan to elope—believing that once their marriage is sanctioned by God, his father will be forced to accept their union. However, as Nolan struggles to learn the ways of the nobility, he finds himself caught between pleasing Hannah and living up to his father’s expectations—and failing miserably on both counts.
