Billy Coffey | New Novel News

Steal Away Home
by Billy Coffeey

Published: January 2, 2018
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
Purchase: Steal Away Home

Owen Cross grew up with two loves: one a game, the other a girl. One of his loves ruined him. Now he’s counting on the other to save him.

Owen Cross’s father is a hard man, proud in his brokenness, who wants nothing more than for Owen to succeed where he failed. With his innate talents and his father’s firm hand guiding him, Owen goes to college with dreams of the major leagues—and an emptiness full of a girl named Micky Dullahan.

Owen loved Micky from the first time they met on the hill between their two worlds: his middle-class home and her troubled Shantytown. Years later he leaves her for the dugouts and the autographs, but their days together follow him. When he finally returns home, he discovers that even peace comes at a cost. And that the hardest things to say are to the ones we love the most.

From bestselling author Billy Coffey comes a haunting story of small-town love, blinding ambition, and the risk of giving it all for one last chance.

“In one evening, a single baseball game, Coffey invites us into a lifetime. With lyrical prose and aching description we join Owen Cross on a journey of love, loss, faith, the unexpected—and America’s favorite pastime.” —Katherine Reay, author of Dear Mr. Knightley and The Austen Escape

Get to know Deanna...

If your book became a movie, who would you cast for your main characters?
Kiernan Shipka would play my main character, Fear. I would love a younger version of Will Jay (from IM5) to play Courage, and I still haven’t found my perfect Manly yet. Maybe a taller, buffer version of Mason Dye.

What actor/actress would play you if your life was a movie?
Drew Barrymore

What are the names of your pets?
We own a parakeet named Flapper, a dog named Westley, a cat named Buttercup, two rats, DC and Snowflake, three bunnies, Snow White, Little Foot and Sugar, and fourteen chickens, Butterfly, Oreo, Starlight, Brownie, Chubby and well...you get the point. I’m not about to name all fourteen.

On Love's Gentle Shore by Liz Johnson | New Novel News

On Love's Gentle Shore
by Liz Johnson

Published: July 4, 2017
Publisher: Revell
Purchase: On Love's Gentle Shore

Fifteen years after she left Prince Edward Island, Natalie O'Ryan had no plans to return. But when her fiancé, music producer Russell Jacobs, books their wedding in her hometown and schedules a summer at Rose's Red Door Inn, she sets out to put the finishing touches on the perfect wedding. But she can't possibly prepare for a run-in with Justin Kane--the best friend she left behind all those years ago after promising to stay.

Justin's never forgotten Natalie or the music career he always dreamed of pursuing. He'd been prepared to follow her off the island until his dad died and he was left to run the family dairy farm. He's done the best he can with the life that was thrust upon him--but with Natalie back in the picture, he begins to realize just how much joy he's been missing.

After Natalie's reception venue falls through, she must scramble to find an alternative, and the only option seems to be a barn on Justin's property. As they work together to get the dilapidated building ready for the party, Natalie and Justin discover the groundwork for forgiveness--and that there may be more than an old friendship between them.

Get to know Liz...

If your book became a movie, who would you cast for your main characters?
I always pictured Natalie as Jessica Chastain, all wild red hair and blue eyes, and I love the cleft in her chin. Justin has always resembled Christian Kane from the TV show Leverage. He’s not too tall and has the stocky build he needs to wrestle cows on his dairy farm. And he has long hair, which he keeps pulled back in a ponytail. Natalie still teases him about it.

Would you rather go to the future or go to the past?
I think I’d rather visit the past. I’d like to see (but not live in) Regency England. Maybe I’d have tea into Jane Austen. I’d definitely enjoy a country walk

Who is your favorite secondary character?
In my books, Aretha Franklin is by far my favorite secondary character. She’s such a wonderful woman. Despite suffering terrible heartache when her husband left her, she’s neither bitter, nor consumed by it. She’s defined by compassion and joy.

The Girl Who Could See by Kara Swanson | New Novel News

The Girl Who Could See
by Kara Swanson

Published: June 1, 2017
Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing
Purchase: The Girl Who Could See

All her life Fern has been told she is blind to reality—but, what if she is the only one who can truly see?

Fern Johnson is crazy. At least, that's what the doctors have claimed since her childhood. Now nineteen, and one step away from a psych ward, Fern struggles to survive in bustling Los Angeles. Desperate to appear normal, she represses the young man flickering at the edge of her awareness—a blond warrior only she can see.

Tristan was Fern's childhood imaginary hero, saving her from monsters under her bed and outside her walls. As she grew up and his secret world continued to bleed into hers, however, it only caused catastrophe. But, when the city is rocked by the unexplainable, Fern is forced to consider the possibility that this young man is not a hallucination after all—and that the creature who decimated his world may be coming for hers.

Get to know Kara...

If you're main character celebrated Halloween, what would they dress up as?
Oooooh I like this!

Tristan: Legloas (Because he’s blonde, and probably would get a kick out of wearing a wig and having pointy ears. Plus, he has this thing about vibrant costumes and bigger-than-life heroes. J)

Fern: Black Widow (She has the red hair, and Tristan would have convinced her to wear the black leather suit ;) )

If your book became a movie, who would you cast for your main characters?
Hmmm…A young Karen Gillan probably for Fern. Although I have trouble picturing her without an irish/English accent :P

And for Tristan…Heath Ledger! When he was younger. Not 100% how I picture Tristan, but really close!

What’s one thing you must have/do in the morning?
Listen to music as I get ready. It sets my mood and helps me to wake up. Usually I listen to Christian Rap or Praise and Worship. (I know, practically opposites, but they both challenge me to get my butt into gear :P )

When Amy Somers loses her job as a lobbyist, she moves to Misty Willow, well aware that she’s crossing bridges she’d burned years before. With all the mistakes she’s made and the uncaring things she’s done–even to her own family–she can hardly believe that happiness will find her, especially when Gabe Kendall, her first crush and her first kiss, rides back into her life atop a buckskin mare.

A former Marine, Gabe is at loose ends after serving a prison sentence for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He sees beyond Amy’s hard exterior to the girl he once knew and loved, and he longs to see her open her heart. Yet with his vision clouded by shame for his past and fears about the future, he finds it difficult to see the path ahead.

But the memory of that long-ago kiss just may have the power to reignite a romance that brings out the best in both of them.

Someplace Familiar
by Teresa Tysinger

Published: May 30, 2017
Publisher: Good Day Publishing
Purchase: Someplace Familiar

-->Artist Livy Johnson needs a fresh start. That's what a broken heart and forgotten dreams can do to a person. On little more than a whim, she reclaims her grandmother’s old mountain cottage in quaint Laurel Cove, North Carolina and vows to restore its original charm. When she literally collides with childhood friend, Jack Bowdon, Livy wonders if she’s back for an entirely different reason.
Jack can’t believe his childhood crush is back. As the owner of Bowdon's Supplies, and once again the town's most eligible bachelor, he offers to help Livy with repairs. Together they embark on the project—and an undeniable whirlwind romance.

But it’s not all smooth sailing. Can they survive the destructive pain of their pasts to discover God’s grace waiting to renovate their hearts?

Get to know Teresa...

--> Who is your favorite secondary character? Without a doubt, my favorite secondary character in Someplace Familiar is Jack’s (our hero) Aunt Bea. She runs the Laurel Cove Inn and is the first to befriend Livy when she comes into town. Aunt Bea is spunky, funny, and full of all the southern charm you could ever hope for. My favorite characteristic is the way she calls everyone “honey” or “dear.” Love!

What’s one thing you must have/do in the morning?
I’m not embarrassed to say that I need my morning coffee to function at full-speed. However, I never started drinking the stuff much until after my daughter was born. My favorite way to drink it is iced with caramel flavor.

Which of your characters do you secretly have a crush on?

I’d be lying if I didn’t say Jack was my not-so-secret character crush. What better perk for romance authors than being able to write our own fantasy leading man? He’s tall, a little rugged, but genuinely kind and tenderhearted. Swoon!

If only Ben Kujak weren’t running Corinna’s Cupboard singlehandedly, he’d be delighted to be on the receiving end. But Evelyn and her dynamo daughter, Maisie, won’t take no for an answer, even if it means restructuring Ben’s charity.

Soon Ben finds himself wishing they’d transform his personal life, too, but can true love sprout when their pasts collide with the present?

Get to know Valerie...

What’s one thing you must have/do in the morning?
Make my bed! The whole house could be covered in dog hair, knee-deep in laundry, and a sink mounded with dirty dishes, but the bed must be made.

What are the names of your pets?
Brody is our 9yo black Lab cross. Brody means ditch-runner, which turned out to be an apt name. Our two cats, Coonie and Moxie, are 7yo tortoiseshell littermates who get along as good as any sisters do, anywhere…

Haida Gwaii, aka the Queen Charlotte Islands, lie a seven-hour ferry ride off the west coast of British Columbia, Canada. With giant trees, shell-covered beaches, and ocean waves all around, it’s a place I hope to return to!

A Season to Dance

Publisher: Bling! Romance, an imprint of Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas
Purchase: A Season to Dance

Small town professional ballerina Ana Brassfield has her path to the stage of the Metropolitan Opera House in New York and her future with fiancé Peter Engberg all figured out—until her first love, renowned German dancer Claus Gert, shows up in Georgia to dance with her and win her back. Claus kisses her after a Romeo and Juliet rehearsal, a kiss Peter witnesses from the darkened audience. Convinced the kiss is more than a one-time mistake, he breaks off the engagement.

Rejected by Peter, and knowing Claus is dancing at the Met soon, Ana decides to repave her path to her dream. With her 2002 Torch Red Ford Thunderbird and Baryshnikov, an old dog crippled by arthritis, she moves to Germany to be with Claus. But the ghost of his late wife, Ana’s own memories of Peter, and the pressure of earning a spot in a large ballet company are a high price for a shot at success.

Get to know Patricia...

If your book became a movie, who would you cast for your main characters?
Peter would be Blake Shelton. Claus would be Mikhail Baryshnikov, a young Mikhail Baryshnikov—I’m thinking late eighties, when the movie White Nights was really popular. And Ana would be me and you. I think there’s a bit of Ana in each of us.

Favorite season?
A Season to Dance. Yes, I had to go there 😊

What are the names of your pets?
My yellow Labrador is Kendra Simões Beal—the greatest champion. She’s the daughter of a famous Hungarian champion and her future was bright. Then I bought her. Apparently my dog-rearing skills are as good as my child-rearing skills. Kendra is the champion of mischief and of all things goofy.

True to You by Becky Wade | New Novel News

True to You
by Becky Wade

Published: May 2, 2017
Publisher: Bethany House
Purchase: True to You

After a devastating heartbreak three years ago, genealogist and historical village owner Nora Bradford has decided that burying her nose in her work and her books is far safer than romance in the here and now.

Unlike Nora, former Navy SEAL and Medal of Honor recipient John Lawson is a modern-day man, usually 100 percent focused on the present. But when he's diagnosed with an inherited condition, he's forced to dig into the secrets of his past and his adoption as an infant, enlisting Nora to help him uncover the identity of his birth mother.

The more time they spend together, the more this pair of opposites suspects they just might be a perfect match. However, John's already dating someone and Nora's not sure she's ready to trade her crushes on fictional heroes for the risks of a real relationship. Finding the answers they're seeking will test the limits of their identity, their faith, and their devotion to one another.

Get to know Becky...

Favorite season?
My favorite season is fall! Here in Texas, we endure, long HOT summers. I'm always thrilled when fall brings cooler temperatures and I get to wear jeans and boots, admire the colorful foliage, and spend more time outdoors. (I huddle inside in the air conditioning most of the summer.) Plus, fall offers awesome holidays.

What’s one thing you must have/do in the morning?
I have to clean my kitchen and straighten the main rooms of our house. I can't write surrounded by mess! So I either chat with friends via the Voxer app or I catch up on news via the Today Show while I clean each morning. My efforts do no extend to my kids' rooms. I just close their doors.

@CreateExploreRead
If your main characters were animals, what would they be?
John, the hero of True to You, would be a boxer, because he's athletic and smart and not afraid to tackle huge challenges. Nora, the heroine of True to You, would be a russet colored cat. Russet-colored because she has red hair. A cat because she's a bookworm who loves tea. Cats are mellow enough to fit right in with books and tea!

Oh, Baby by Delia Latham | New Novel News

Oh, Baby (Hearts Haven)
by Delia Latham

Published: April 28, 2017
Publisher: Pelican Book Group
Purchase: Oh, Baby (Hearts Haven)

Dawni Manors is happy to see San Antonio in her rearview mirror. In search of peace, she rents a unit at Heart’s Haven, a quaint cottage-rental complex in East Texas. The place is said to be a hangout for angels—and for love. Dawni's not looking for love, and she's not convinced angels exist. What she yearns for, after a chaotic childhood as an orphan, is tranquility and hope. Maybe she'll find those things at Heart’s Haven.

Instead, she finds Pro Cowboy Gavin Sampson, an abandoned infant, and a whole lot of emotional chaos. If the Heart's Haven angels really are there, what in the world are they thinking?

Get to know Delia...

If your main characters were animals, what would they be? Dawni would be a shy, little kitten with a stubborn streak. She yearns for companionship…family…home. But she’s a little skittish. Hard to find those things when you’re afraid to let anyone ‘touch’ you—and determined that you can make it on your own, with no help from anyone else.

Gavin would be a beautiful stallion. He’s a rodeo cowboy, so the role fits, even without his confident, outgoing, showy nature. This guy’s got no kittenish qualities whatsoever!

Who is your favorite secondary character?
In OH BABY, that would have to be Nonna. My sister-in-law, Elaine, won a chance to have a character named after her. I went a step further and used the title her grandchildren call her by, which is Nonna, and I truly love the personality her character took on in the story. I think readers will too…one can only hope!

What's one chore you hate doing?
Definitely laundry. It’s endless, and so boring. There’s absolutely no romance in stinky socks and soiled underwear! lol

The Pony Express
by Donna Schlachter et. al

Published: April 3, 2017
Publisher: Barbour Books
Purchase: The Pony Express Romance Collection

Books centered on the Pony Express, which ran from April 1860 through November 1861. The Pony Express already seems to be a romantic snippet of Americana, and so it seemed to make sense to write a collection of historical romance set on the trail. My story, Echoes of the Heart, features a mail order bride responding under an assumed name, a crippled station master who thinks no woman will want him, and their search for a future—together or separately.

Get to know Donna...

Favorite season?
Summer.

What's your favorite chore?
Washing dishes.

Would you rather go to the future or go to the past?

To the past. I think I was born about 50 years too late.

Donna lives in Denver with husband Patrick, her first-line editor and biggest fan. She writes historical suspense under her own name, and contemporary suspense under her alter ego of Leeann Betts. She is a hybrid publisher who has published a number of books under her pen name and under her own name. Her current release, Echoes of the Heart, a 9-in-1 novella collection titled "Pony Express Romance Collection" released April 1. Donna is also a ghostwriter and editor of fiction and non-fiction, and judges in a number of writing contests. She will be teaching an online course for American Christian Fiction Writers in June 2017, “Don’t let your subplots sink your story”. Donna loves history and research, and travels extensively for both.
