We always have a bit of a zoo at our house, having over the years dogs, cats, hamsters, and rabbits. Right now we have four dogs, Arya, Harley, Tobias (Toby), and Nadia, plus two kittens, Cleo and Jasmine.

Favorite place you’ve traveled to? 
So hard to choose, but I’ll say Venice. Beautiful and so romantic!

The Pony Express already seems to be a romantic snippet of Americana, and so it seemed to make sense to write a collection of historical romance set on the trail. My story, Echoes of the Heart, features a mail order bride responding under an assumed name, a crippled station master who thinks no woman will want him, and their search for a future—together or separately.

Would you rather go to the future or go to the past?
To the past. I think I was born about 50 years too late.

Donna lives in Denver with husband Patrick, her first-line editor and biggest fan. She writes historical suspense under her own name, and contemporary suspense under her alter ego of Leeann Betts. She is a hybrid publisher who has published a number of books under her pen name and under her own name. Her current release, Echoes of the Heart, a 9-in-1 novella collection titled "Pony Express Romance Collection" released April 1. Donna is also a ghostwriter and editor of fiction and non-fiction, and judges in a number of writing contests. She will be teaching an online course for American Christian Fiction Writers in June 2017, “Don’t let your subplots sink your story”. Donna loves history and research, and travels extensively for both.

In this last novel to Lisa Harris's Southern Crimes series, Michael Hunt, undercover detective, is found alive, but that may not be for long. His fate rests in the hands of Olivia Hamilton, the daughter of the man who is hunting Michael down.

As we race through the pages with Michael and Olivia, Lisa weaves in twists and turns that will have you wondering how they will make it out alive when it seems as if the world is stacked against them.

I found Michael and Olivia to be well rounded, though Olivia's brother didn't get much in the way of "filling out". I often wondered, what is he doing? I enjoyed the conflict and suspense, though at times felt some scenes were to abrupt to actually feel the danger. I also would have loved to see more of the blossoming of romance between Michael and Olivia, which I understand is hard to do in a fast paced story like this.

Overall, a great read that mostly kept me interested. I feel as if it was a fitting end to the series as well, seeing how characters from the other novels were drawn in for Hidden Agenda. I would recommend this to fans of romantic suspense, especially those who have read the other novels in this series.

Fatal Exchange, the second book in Lisa Harris's Southern Crimes series will keep you guessing until the end.

Mason Taylor has a heart of gold to match his cunning and good looks. He's volunteered his free time, when he's not working as an undercover cop, to work with teen boys who are missing a father-presence in their lives. That's how he met Rafael.

Emily Hunt, with her vintage style and quick avoidance of men in uniform, is a teacher with a mission to dedicate everything she has to her students. Just how far she'll go to protect them is tested when Rafael, one of her favorite students, takes her class hostage.

The excitement just begins there and will keep you wondering how things will work out until the very end. Add a bit of romance, a heaping dose of danger, and you have the recipe for a captivating read.

I enjoyed this novel by Lisa Harris, though I haven't yet read the first in this series, Dangerous Passage, so I can't speak to it as a followup. I enjoyed the guessing game Harris puts her readers through, and found it almost to be more of a mystery than a full, action-packed novel.

There were a few times while I was reading that I felt she belabored the point about something, like several pages of dialogue that went in circles about the same issue. Also, though the novel itself was well rounded, there were times when things seemed to end much too quickly for all of the pent up emotion that went into building the scenarios up. These points, however, didn't stop me from enjoying the read.

I'd recommend this to anyone who likes romantic suspense but is okay with less action and more storyline. The romance is sweet and you'll have no troubles jumping right in to book 2 if you've missed book 1.
