March Wrap-Up 2020

Spring time reading...it's the best! And it's pretty much all we can do while we're stuck at home, eh? Check out my Wrap-Up for the year of March. I mean, for the month ;-)

I was happy to read 8 books this month on audio, kindle, and physical copy! Below is a list of all of what I read with a little explanation to their ratings. I will highlight a few that I really enjoyed in hopes that you may enjoy them too!

Sky Without Stars by Jessica Brody & Joanne Rendell | 3.5*
An interesting YA Sci-fi that's supposed to be a reimagining of Les Miserables. I wish there had been more world building for the science fiction aspect of it. I like that it's immersive but I don't exactly get the feeling of a sci-fi world like you do in something like The Lunar Chronicles. I also found it to be very very long. Like, toward the end I started wondering when it would ever be over (and I was listening to this as an audiobook on 1.75x speed...). Over all, an imaginative story but I wasn't in love with it.

The June Boys by Court Stevens
I had really high hopes for this one - a thriller about The Gemini Thief who takes 3 boys (The June Boys) and the MC and her boyfriend are trying to find him BUT it could be her father? Yes, please! Sadly though, it feel a little flat for me. I didn't get a good grasp of most of the characters and I felt like a lot of time wasn't spent looking for the killer as much as I hoped it would be. I think I was expecting more mystery and less...worried questioning? The writing was lovely and descriptive, but sometimes distracted me from the point too. All in all, not a bad story but I'd hoped for something a little more gripping.

Woven in Moonlight by Isabel Ibanez | 5*
Well, this book surprised me! I will admit off the bat that it took me a little while to really get in to. Not because of the plot because I feel like that was paced well, but I had a bit of a challenging time really connecting with the main character at first. Friends, she's a bit rough on the outside! But - I also know that those types of characters tend to make the best transformations so I held on and was not disappointed. The romance in this was lovely and sweet, a bit of a slow burn which I greatly approached, and the character transformation was really awesome! I will say there was a bit more violence than I would have expected so some parts may be difficult, but otherwise a really great read! Can't wait for the next book!

A Small Book for the Anxious Heart by Edward. T. Welch | 5*
I have long since enjoyed Edward T. Welch's books. This was no different! Filled with intuitive insight into an anxious heart and easily broken into manageable reading bites, this book is perfect for helping anyone with anxiety or who is prone to worry. I highly recommend it as an easy ready but also an important one.

Havenfall by Sara Holland | 3.5*
This was a hard one for me to review. You can see what I said on my Goodreads page here.

Before I Called You Mine by Nicole Deese | 5*
THIS BOOK! Friends...*sigh* you need to read this. I'd write more but I already poured out my heart in my GR review!
Check out my full review on Goodreads here.

Master of One by Jordan Raynor | 5*
I've been reading this for a while and then couldn't find the time to finish it up - not due to the fault of the book (which I really enjoyed) but due to my own desire to read fiction lol. But, this book was SO good! I feel like EVERY creative needs this book.

The King of Crows by Libba Bray | 4*
I just love Libba Bray's writing. It's lyrical and descriptive and catapults you into the 20s like no other (well, in this series at least). Color me surprised when I realized that this book was out! I didn't even know it was in the works (shame on me) and thankfully snagged an audiobook copy from my library. The voice actor for this book does an excellent job and made listening sooo easy. I think the story was good. A hard one because you're wrapping up a series that has many threads and bringing together many characters, but I think the author did a great job. If you like historicals (especially the 20s) with ghosts and spooky happenings, I'd recommend this series!
There is language and some adult references in this.

Welp, that's it for March folks. I had hoped to finish up a few more but I've been working on some book stuff (exciting!) so I wasn't really able to get to as many as I'd hoped. PLUS I'm working my way through the audio of the unabridged The Count of Monte Cristo and while it is excellently done, it is LONG! I'll be wrapping it up in this first week of April I think so you'll see my review next month :)

What was a favorite book you read this month?

The discovery section of the site allows them to promote their own profiles as well as that of others. The possibilities of this are pretty much endless and, certainly, this is a great way to grow the overall user base. By https://igfollowers.co.uk
