Lillian Duncan | Spread the Christmas Joy

Christmas is NOT one of my favorite holidays! I know—sort of shocking that I would be writing a blog about my favorite Christmas memory.

But I love the Christmas season. The day itself—not so much. The day is filled with too much pressure—too many expectations—too _________________ (fill in the blank)! But the season I love. Not the shopping part but pretty much everything else is great!

People seem to be nicer to each other during the Christmas season. I love the decorations; all the holiday productions at the area churches; and don’t forget my favorite—the Christmas cookies.

Anyway, last year was one of my very favorite memories.

One of the things my husband and I’ve been doing for the past several years is to clear off our enclosed porch and put up lots of Christmas trees, lights, snowmen, angels, and any anything else we can find. And we do it because WE have fun doing it.

Anyway… I’ve been battling bilateral brain tumors since 2012. They aren’t life-threatening but they have wreaked havoc on my health. Last Christmas, I just didn’t have the energy to participate in putting up the trees so I told my husband not to worry about it.

But, of course, he didn’t listen.

He put them up and I helped as much as I could which wasn’t much. Once all the trees were up and glittering for all to see, there were eleven trees. I mentioned how it would be awesome to have twelve to celebrate the twelve days of Christmas.

And, of course, he did listen! And soon we had our twelfth tree up!

Every time I looked at all our twelve bright and shiny Christmas trees, I felt loved.

And isn’t that what Christmas is really all about?
